After recently taking on one of the meal plans favored by John Cena, YouTuber Aseel Soueid decided to take things even further for his latest video, and lived like the wrestler-turned-movie star for a whole day, following every item on his packed daily routine. He gets his information from an interview with Vanity Fair, in which Cena outlined every single thing he does on an average day.
Aseel begins by waking up between 6 and 7 a.m., showering and getting dressed before his first meal at 8 a.m.: a shake consisting of two scoops of whey protein, made with equal parts milk and water. Then, come 9 o’clock, it’s time for the first workout of the day, starting with 45 whole minutes just to warm up, followed by a compound lift-focused session including bench press, deadlift, pullups, cleans and overhead press.
After another quick shower, while Cena would be heading to some big Hollywood meeting, Aseel goes to the grocery store to stock up on supplies for the rest of the day’s meals. As Cena himself says: “It’s always kind of time to eat.”
Cena’s 11 a.m. meal is usually another big protein shake, but Aseel opts for the slightly lighter option of a protein bar. Then, during the time that Cena would be dedicating to learning a new language or practicing on the piano (seriously, the man doesn’t stop), Aseel catches up on his emails.
Before dinner, Cena has a pre-meal meal: that’s right, another protein shake. “My day has consisted of a little over 80 grams of protein coming from nothing but supplements,” says Aseel.
At 7 p.m., the working day ends, and just like Cena would, Aseel goes out to dinner and finally consumes something that doesn’t come from powder. “This is the first solid meal I’ve had all day,” he says.
