Alex Jones gets candid about person who turned her life around

The One Show host Alex Jones, 46, exudes style and confidence.

And during her 13 years presenting the programme, she has warmed her way into the hearts of the public.

These traits also landed her the presenting role on her latest BBC project, Reunion Hotel, which she says she has been “waiting for”.

Although, she has not always been confident, undergoing a huge transformation during her teens.

Alex credits her former schoolteachers at Maes-yr-Yrfa, a Welsh-language school in Carmarthenshire, for this, but one of them, in particular, made a real difference.

She has told Weekend Magazine: “There’s a teacher, in particular, who I’d like to make sure knows this. She transformed me.

“I was a shy child and I don’t know how she did it, but she brought me out of my shell. I’m so grateful because without it, I don’t think I’d be doing the job I do.

“She helped me build myself up. Everybody needs that one person, a mentor, and that’s often a turning point.”

Alex is temporarily stepping away from The One Show sofa and heading for a Welsh hotel to give people a chance to thank those who have impacted their lives.

Promoting Reunion Hotel, the mother-of-three said: “It’s the show I’ve been waiting for because it draws on the skills I’ve learned not just as a broadcaster, but as a wife, mother, friend and daughter.”

“These people are sharing stories that they’ve kept hidden for so long, in some cases.”

Reunion Hotel sees Alex giving people a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be reunited with someone pivotal from their past.

Each episode of the six-part series sees three people meet the person that has made a central impact on their life.

The show is taking place at Iscoyd Park, an 18th-century manor in North Wales.

It may be wise to bring a box of tissues as Alex added: “The show takes you on an emotional rollercoaster – one minute you’re laughing and the next you’re in tears.”

Amid the emotions, Alex is the perfect host as she puts her guests at ease with her empathetic and maternal instincts.
