Bradley Walsh, 63, recently said that he was ready to retire in “a couple of years” as he discussed his busy schedule filming for The Chase and the ITV reboot of The Darling Buds Of May, The Larkins. Following his admission, fans were left concerned about what would happen to The Chase if he retires.

Twitter user Bronson Johnson wrote: “If Bradley Walsh leaves The Chase, The Chase is over.”

Neen commented: “Bradley Walsh retiring from The Chase? Sorry but the people won’t let this happen.”

Emma M suggested that Jason Manford would be a good replacement for the host.

Anne has now said she believes The Chase works so well, particularly because of the format and Bradley’s hosting abilities.

“I can’t imagine who else could do it,” she said of a replacement on the My Time Capsule podcast.

Addressing his retiring comments, she went on to say: “I think this was Brad just talking off the cuff.

“I don’t think he has any plans to retire.

“I think he just meant, ‘Obviously I can’t go on forever but who knows when I might not be able to go on until’.”

Speaking of his schedule on the Sliding Doors podcast, the 60-year-old said in July: “You know what, in a couple of years time I won’t have to do any of it, I’ll be retired and that’ll be it.”

He went on to say that while he films 210 Chases, 16 Celebrity Chases and 16 Beat The Chasers a year, he is left with a chunk of time to work on other projects.

“You’d imagine I have loads of time off. But once you’ve got your bedrock of shows set in, that allows you then to go off and do other things.

“I don’t actually have time off, I have meetings, I have personal appearances I have to make and stuff like that with other things I’ve got going on, so it’s quite tricky to juggle it about,” he continued.

For now, the presenter and actor’s schedule is probably his busiest yet with his shows; The Chase, Breaking Dad with his son Barney and most recently The Larkins.

Rumours that Brad could quit the show began earlier this year.

At the time, the Mail Online also suggested that ITV was “under fire for having no women hosts fronting game shows or quizzes”.

Addressing the rumours on Twitter, Anne wrote: “Firstly, Brad isn’t leaving. Secondly, I’m not leaving.

“Thirdly, I’m a woman and I DO present an ITV gameshow.”

Anne is best known as the Governess on the show and also features in the Australian version.

Her fellow chasers include; Mark Labbett, Jenny Ryan, Darragh Ennis, Shaun Wallace and Paul Sinha.

The Chase continues today at 5pm on ITV.
