Fans excited for Eddie Murphy’s new Coming 2 America movie were finally treated to a first look as the star back in action as Prince (now King) Akeem Joffer, as a trailer finally dropped for the upcoming film.
It’s the long anticipated sequel to Coming to America that was released back in 1988 and sees Eddie’s character, a newly-crowned King Akeem, heading back to Queens, New York to find his long lost son as part of his father’s dying wish.
30-seconds in and the trailer already has us howling, as Akeem declares it’s time to head back to America and his right hand man and best pal Semmi (Arsenio Hall) declares: ‘Oh, hell no your majesty.’
Heading back to where it all began, something tells us things aren’t exactly going to be plain sailing for the pair on their hunt for Akeem’s boy.
The teaser revealed that fans are in for a hilarious treat too, as Eddie and Arsenio take on several characters, y’know just to spice things up a little and add that extra dash of comedic fun.
Coming 2 America is set for release in March next year, with Amazon bagging the rights to the film, after the success of Borat 2, from Paramount Pictures.
It will premiere on Prime Video on March 5, meaning the movie will be seen across the globe in over 240 countries.
Coming 2 America also sees the return of original stars James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, Cleo McDowell and Louise Anderson.
Cast newcomers, meanwhile, include the likes of Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones and Teyana Taylor, who welcomed her second child in September.
The movie’s events take place after original film, Coming to America, which saw Akeem and Semmi head to New York after his 21st birthday and posing as foreign students.
Akeem was on the lookout for love and searching for his own bride, after his parents presented him with an arranged marriage.
After being warned by fans not to ‘f**k up’ the sequel, Eddie revealed last year that he is thrilled with how the upcoming movie turned out.
Speaking to Antonio Banderas for Variety, Eddie said: ‘I’m just over the moon with how it’s turned out.’
‘I don’t know what it is about that movie, but that’s the one movie that I’ve done that, like, on Halloween people dress up like the characters, and people always say lines from that movie to me.
‘We figured out a way to connect [the sequel to the original], and that’s what we’re doing now.’
