David Beckham, 46, admitted that his wife Victoria has a very annoying habit – but it’s one that’s actually rather distinguished, too. And the former Manchester United player didn’t try and hide his envy.

It is annoying

In a chat with Ruthie Rogers on her River Cafe Table 4 podcast, David opened about his life and career, including some interesting anecdotes about everything in between.

When he visits The River Cafe, he always goes with Victoria and their four children.

Ruthie revealed they always sit at the table closest to the kitchen, sharing food and always enjoying a bottle of Sassicia, his favourite wine.

On the topic of wine, David opened up about his love for the stuff, despite not drinking much while he was a player.

After the family moved to LA in 2007 when he signed a five-year contract with Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy, David admitted that’s when he “really started loving wine”.

With Napa Valley on the doorstep, his world changed as he was introduced to some of the best wine connoisseurs and enjoyed the refined chit-chat.

The wine region is known for hundreds of hillside vineyards and is a wine lover’s dream.

“There’s nothing better than sitting at a table with someone who knows what they’re talking about and what they’re drinking and what they’re tasting and smelling,” he smiled.

“And annoyingly, Victoria’s very good on that!”

Ruthie interjected, laughing: “That is annoying!

“She can say, ‘This wine tastes like cigarette smoke.'”

David agreed: “It is annoying actually, that’s exactly what she can say!

“And I’m like, ‘Yeah it really does…’ but I don’t taste anything!”

Despite being an enviable talent to have, David explained that his wife is very modest about it.

He continued: “She’ll never admit it, she’ll always say, ‘David’s the expert.’

“Then all of a sudden will say, ‘That tastes slightly smoky.’

“But I love wine!”
