This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes, 60, and Ruth Langsford, 59 spoke to OK! magazine about the heartbreaking passing of Ruth’s sister, Julia. Eamonn described how he had adjusted his usual Christmas holiday plans to comfort grieving Ruth.
Speaking to the magazine, he said that usually he returns to Belfast to spend time with his family, but this year he will remain at their home in Surrey.
He said: “I was planning to fly back to Belfast, as it’s not uncommon for Ruth and I to spend Christmas apart with our own families.
“But it’s barely six months since the sudden death of Ruth’s sister so I need to be here for her.”
Ruth added that this Christmas would be the first one for her and her mother without Julia.

She said: “It’s going to be a very challenging time for me and my mum, who’ll be with us.
“I could cancel Christmas, but my sister loved it so I’m having turkey and we’ll put Christmas carols on.
“I’m sure we’ll cry but we’ll also be happy.”
Julia died aged 62 in June after a “long illness”. An inquest ruled that she had taken her own life after struggling with depression for many years.

My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.

Ruth went on to take a break from her television work commitments to grieve privately.
Back in 2010 the sisters spoke to Daily Express about their relationship.
Julia said: “Ruth and I are very different.
“She is the confident one – I would hate to be in the limelight like she is – but she has worked her way up and I’m very proud of her.”
