Emma Barton has taken to social media to share a heartfelt tribute to her former co-star Nicky Henson after the news of his death was announced today.
The Honey Mitchell actress, 42, retweeted the BBC's soaps official message and shared it with her 56.5K followers.
She emotionally announced: "RIP my darling Nicky….."
The BBC EastEnders account also shared an emotional note from the soap star and former Strictly Come Dancing finalist.
She said: "Truly devastated to hear about the passing of my beautiful TV Dad. A wonderfully talented actor, a true gentleman, not forgetting his terrifically wicked sense of humour. Thinking of his family."
Emma’s best known for playing Honey Mitchell on EastEnders from 2005 – 2008, and again from 2014 onwards.
Nicky went on to play Honey's dad Jack in EastEnders in 2006, but left soon after due to his ill health.
The former Fawlty Towers actor died at the age of 74 after battling cancer for almost twenty years.
He was also known for playing Mr. Johnson in The Psychiatrist episode of the popular comedy.
In an interview with the Mirror last year, Henson said: "I've been fighting cancer for 18 years now so it’s just part of my life.
Whatever happens, happens. It’s not so much fighting it, it’s keeping a sense of humour."
Confirming news of Henson's death on Monday, friend Ian Oglivy posted to Facebook : "After an illness which started twenty years ago, and which was born with great fortitude and good humour, my oldest and dearest friend, my mate Nicky Henson, has gone."
Other tributes have also flooded into Twitter , with another EastEnders co-star Stuart Antony tweeted this morning.
He announced: "RIP the wonderful Nicky Henson – The man with million stories all of them funny. A true gent x"
Meanwhile Brookside actress Julie Peasgood shared: "He was indeed a wonderful guy."
Emma would have learned the sad news of Nicky's death just a day after her hectic weekend at the Strictly Come Dancing final.
The soap star lost out on the glitterball trophy after battling it out on the dance floor and watched fellow contestant Kelvin Fletcher take home the win.
The star was then hit with the sad news of the passing of her ill co-star today.
