Eminem unleashed his controversial freestyle “Kick Off,” an 11-minute clip that covers a wide range of topics, on Friday.
The track mentions topics such as the 2017 terrorist bombing after Ariana Grande‘s concert in Manchester, Muslim extremism, and celebrities including Jada Pinkett Smith, Justin Beiber and Reese Witherspoon.
Reminding viewers that everything is fair play in battle rap, Eminem said, “I’ve always looked at battle rap as competition or war, and the main objective is to destroy, completely f***ing oblite.”
The singer wrote on Twitter: “The release of BODIED has me feeling nostalgic about battle rap so I headed down to my old stomping grounds.”
Although Em calls out a few celebrities in the clip, shot at The Shelter at St. Andrew’s in Detroit, some of his references and phrases are indirect.
“I play for keeps/ there’s no escaping me/I have a bitch scared, and chained to me/and throw away the key/And she’ll be so afraid to leave/ that even if she ends up breaking free, she’ll just sit there,” exclaims Em. He then jokes, ” I’m just playing ladies, you know I love you.”
Eminem’s studio album Kamikaze, released in September, debuted atop the Billboard 200.
