Eric Church paid tribute to late country icon Johnny Cash during his performance at the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards on Wednesday.
Church opened his performance by strumming along to Cash’s “Ragged Old Flag,” after which he moved onto his own “Stick That In Your Country Song.”
“Ragged Old Flag” is a song from Cash’s 1974 album of the same name.
The song was written in 1974 during a time of political turbulence in the U.S. that included President Richard Nixon’s resignation during the Watergate scandal.
Meanwhile, “Stick That In Your Country Song” is Church’s latest song that dropped on June 25. Church co-wrote the song with Davis Naish and Jeffrey Steele.
The anthem is the lead release from his much-anticipated new album, which will serve as the follow-up to 2018’s Desperate Man.
The country superstar was also nominated for two ACM Awards including Entertainer Of The Year and Song Of The Year for “Some Of It.”
