He’s The Greatest Showman, about to embark on a world tour as his movie once again nets the top spot in the charts.
But for Hugh Jackman his greatest achievement is surely his enduring marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness. [CORR]
For while the claws come out after just months with most Hollywood couples, in April the Wolverine star will celebrate 23 years with the Australian actress and producer.
So what’s his secret? They never spend more than two weeks apart – on Deborra’s say so.
Hugh, 50, reveals: “She has the two-week rule. No roles that take you away that long.
“That was that rule, which we’ve kept for 25 years.”
The pair are also 100% honest with each other.
“Even if it’s embarrassing, even if you’re shameful, even if you’ve screwed up, be honest,” said Hugh. “If you can trust each other, that’s better.
“She knows more about me than anybody else.”
Deb, 63, and their children Oscar, 18, and Ava, 13, are about to join Hugh on his first world tour this spring, across the US, Europe and the UK.
It comes as The Greatest Showman, released to lukewarm reviews in December 2017, has become an unexpected phenonmenon – knocking Mamma Mia!
Here We Go Again off the top of Official Film Chart for home releases this week, and adding to its £341million box office haul.
But in the early days it was Hugh who dropped everything for Deb, after meeting on drama Correlli in 1995 and marrying the following year.
“A few weeks into my relationship with Deb, she said, ‘By the way, do you think this is going anywhere? I’m going to live in New York.’
I was like, ‘Yeah, all right – coming’,” he cooed to Sirius FM. “When you fall in love with someone, what you’re actually getting a glimpse of is the real them.
"That’s why it feels so great, like: ‘Ah, I don’t have to pretend to be something’.”
If only men everywhere could pretend to be a bit more like Hugh though.
