Ben Thompson tonight told fans he’ll be “hanging up” his “hard hat and hi-vis” after a decade working on news reports for the BBC. The journalist shared various pictures of him wearing the attire for multiple outdoor segments he fronted for the channel as he shared details about his move. 

On Twitter, he wrote: “I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us.”

Naga Munchetty shared his post on her page, revealing she’ll miss him “immensely”.

She wrote: “I will miss you immensely on-air, but you’ll always be my partner in mischief x.”

Others flocked to her post to send their supportive messages.

Mrs H wrote: “Hope you move onto something that makes u happy. Lots of luck!!!”

Richard Marsden added: “Awww good luck Ben @BBCBenThompson.”

Calvin Kablooie commented: “@BBCBenThompson you could have left it until after Christmas, You are always so enthusiastic and knowledgable.

“It improves the programme immensely when you appear. You, Charlie, and @TVNaga01 are the dream team.

“You will be missed my many viewers.”

On his Instagram, Ben shared pictures of him dressed in a navy suit with a red tie.

He added: “I’m not going far. They’re just letting me in from the cold and rain.

“I’ll keep the @BBCBreakfast sofa warm at weekends and during the week, I’m (re)joining our global channel @BBCWorld and @BBCNews.

Ben began his BBC career in 2001 at Radio Wales in Cardiff.

On television, he informed viewers about how money, savings, pensions and pay affect our money and personal finances.

After International reporting, he returned to the UK to become the Business Presenter for the BBC News Channel.

Ben went on to co-host Breakfast, Business Live, the BBC’s daily business programme broadcast around the world on the BBC News Channel and BBC World News.

Naga has been a regular presenter on BBC Breakfast since 2009.

Earlier this year, she joined BBC Radio 5 Live. 

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
