Someone has finally gone and put together two of the greatest minds of our time. Once Twitter Philosopher, Jaden Smith. And MAGA-Brained Tree-Talker, Kanye West. These two are about to hit us with half an hour episodes of a show that will give us soooooooo much to think about… specifically because it probably won’t make any got-damn sense.
Deadline is reporting that Showtime has decided to open up its doors to Kanye West’s brain by giving him a show called Omniverse. Listen, I know from the name of the show and the attachment of Kanye and Jaden you’re already ready for the foolery, prepare yourself because… it’s so Kanye West I wouldn’t be surprised if it one day became sentient and interrupted a Taylor Swift concert to talk about Beyoncé via hacking her tour monitors.
Omniverse is a limited (thank the gods) half-hour anthology series from Kanye, Scooter Braun, and writer Lee Sung Ji of the Amazon Prime series, Undone. Yeah, Justin Bieber-founder Scooter Braun is getting in on this. This is a Kanye West/Scooter Braun/Jaden Smith collab. Is there going to be room in production for anyone or anything with all those egos in one place? It’s gonna cause a nuclear event. And speaking of “ego” the show admits its full of it.
Omniverse, was written by Lee–his previous show Undone is about time manipulation-type stuff–and the show “examines the many doors of perception.” Season One (wait I thought you said “limited”?!) “will explore the Ego through an alternate reality Kanye West.” Jaden is playing Kanye West. Well listen, if Kanye West is going to be able to give us a thorough examination of something, it’s definitely Ego. I don’t know if the message will necessarily be the one he’s trying to make, though–I think it’s more like, witnessing him work, is the commentary on Ego.
Lee had this to say about working on Omniverse:
“I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West. Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half hour narrative.”
You should always be nervous if you hear about the phrase “pushing the limits” in relation to a Kanye West project. Next thing you know models are dying from heat stroke on a flop-ass runway. People need to reign him in. Good luck if he asks you to build a dome.
This is going to be ridiculous. I just know it. Kanye is King of finding something someone else did first and slapping his name on a worse version of it–so expect this to be like a shitty, self-obsessed, much-more-confusing Black Mirror. And you know what’s scary? At some point in the next ten years, it will probably be considered mandatory scientific education for his Kult.
