Louis Tomlinson’s devastating lyrics about mum’s death behind awkward interview

Louis Tomlinson opens up about the unimaginable pain of losing his mum in a song on his new solo album.

The former One Direction star spoke about his new track Walls during an awkward interview on BBC Breakfast this morning, after which he vowed never to go on the programme again.

The 28-year-old singer lashed out at journalists Dan Walker and Louise Minchin for asking him questions about his grief over his late mother Johannah and his sister Félicité.

The lead track on Louis's new album, Two Of Us, focuses on him coming to terms with losing his mum, and includes a number of heartbreaking lyrics.

Johannah died after battling leukemia in December 2016 aged 43.

Just weeks after Louis released the song his sister Félicité died of a heart attack after "accidentally overdosing" on Cocaine, Xanax and Oxycodone last year when she was just 18.

The singer used his new music as a vein to outpour his grief and dealing with missing his mother.

Part of the song lyrics, which you can read in full below, say: "You'll never know how much I miss you.

"The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead.

"But you once told me don't give up. You can do it day by day. And diamonds they don't turn to dust or fade away."

Speaking about the album today, Louis has said he was upset by the line of questioning.

The interview also focused on his history with One Direction but Louis expressed he had hoped to be discussing his new album.

A BBC spokesperson defended the interview, claiming Dan and Louise's line of questioning encompassed aspects of Louis' life which have influenced his album.

They told The Mirror: “We wanted to cover all aspects of Louis’ life that have influenced his new album and feel the questioning was fair.”

  • Lily Allen's mysterious beef with Fearne Cotton and her other explosive celebrity feuds

After the interview Louis took to Twitter, saying he would never appear on BBC Breakfast again.

Writing to his 33.5m followers, he said: "Defo wont be going on there again Haha! Love to all my fans for always having my back."

He later added: "Anyway f*** the negativity now. It's been a siiiiick week."

In quick response, BBC's Dan wrote: "Sorry you feel like that. It was nice to speak to you on #BBCBreakfast this morning. Can I ask what you are upset about?"

Louis responded: "I was upset that you continued to ask me about my grief. It goes without saying how hard it is to lose both people so close to me. The least I ask is that you respect my decision of not wanting to be asked in interviews about something so painful."

  • Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston 'split over a prison toilet' – not Angelina Jolie

He explained: "I'm lucky enough to have a creative outlet for me to talk about grief this doesn't however give you the right to talk about it for gossip purposes."

Amid their Twitter spat, BBC journalist Dan was quick to clarify they probed Louis with questions about his mum in reference to his new album Walls.

He claimed: "Hi Louis. We were asking you about the song on your new album about your mum. We know it’s painful which is why we didn’t dwell on it.

"No intention to upset you or be ‘gossipy’ about it at all. That’s not our style on #BBCBreakfast."

Dan added: "We asked him loads of questions about his new album but also in the context of his past success. Thanks for watching."

Two of Us lyrics

It's been a minute since I called you
Just to hear the answerphone
Yeah, I know that you won't get this
But I'll leave a message so I'm not alone
This morning I woke up still dreaming
With memories playing through my head
You'll never know how much I miss you
The day that they took you, I wish it was me instead. But you once told me, "Don't give up, you can do it day by day"
And diamonds, they don't turn to dust or fade away. So I will keep you day and night, here until the day I die
I'll be living one life for the two of us
I will be the best of me, always keep you next to me
I'll be living one life for the two of us
Even when I'm on my own, I know I won't be alone
Tattooed on my heart are the words of your favorite song
I know you'll be looking down, swear I'm gonna make you proud
I'll be living one life for the two of usI could feel your blood run through me
You're written in my DNA
Looking back in every mirror
I know you'll be waiting, I'll see you again. But you once told me, "Don't give up, you can do it day by day"
And diamonds, they don't turn to dust or fade away (fade away)So I will keep you day and night, here until the day I die
I'll be living one life for the two of us. I promised you I'd do this
So all of this is all for you
Oh, I swear to God you're living
Through everything I'll ever doSo I will keep you day and night, here until the day I die
I'll be living one life for the two of us. One life for the two of us
I'll be living one life for the two of us. We'll end just like we started
Just you and me and no one else
I will hold you where my heart is
One life for the two of us
