She’s been on a worldwide promotional trail with her latest historical drama film Mary Queen of Scots.

And Margot Robbie pulled all out the stops as she joined Saoirse Ronan for the European Premiere of the film at Cineworld Leicester Square in London on Monday evening.

The Wolf Of Wall Street star, 28, oozed Old Hollywood glamour as she donned a polka dot gown, embellished a plunging neckline and rose details on its bodice.

In the film, Saoirse plays the titular Mary, Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, who defies pressure to remarry; instead, returning to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. 

But Scotland and England fall under the rule of her cousin Elizabeth I — played by Margot.

‘Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence,’ the official synopsis reads.

In a recent interview with Today, Margot revealed her transformation into the royal character proved to incredibly challenging.

She explained: ‘I could barely move my face because there was so much prosthetics. It’s glued-down plastic on your face.’

Calling her striking appearance an ‘interesting social experiment’ in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Margot revealed how she felt ‘alienated’ while in hair, makeup and costume as the fiery-tressed 16th century royal.

‘It was very alienating. And I felt very lonely. It was an interesting social experiment.’

‘The clothes were very restrictive, as they were at the time. It helped – I felt claustrophobic, I felt trapped,’ Margot said.

‘But kind of upholding this image the whole time, which is kind of what she [Elizabeth] did. She kind of created an image and then was imprisoned by it.’ 

Talking about the steps it took to become the monarch, Margot revealed: ‘They’d start with a head wrap. Gelling and pinning my hair down. Then we’d do a bald cap.’

‘Surprisingly, the quick part was the white makeupAnd the heavily drawn-on blush, eyebrows, lips.’

In the film, the actress wears a number of prosthetic scars as Elizabeth’s struggle with smallpox intensifies.  

The film is set to hit the big screen on January 18, and was released in the United States on 7 December.
