Maya Jama attends peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in London after the murder of George Floyd

Maya Jama attended the peaceful protest held in London's Hyde Park in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on Wednesday.

Thousands of people gathered in the capital's park to peacefully voice their outrage over the senseless killing of American man George Floyd at the hands of policemen last week.

Following the social media blackout on Tuesday, Maya joined members of the public as they took to Hyde Park to protest.

The former BBC Radio 1 presenter took to Instagram to share that she had taken to the park to join in with the movement.

Maya shared a photo of the aftermath of the protest while the supporters spilled onto the streets following the demonstration.

She wrote to her 1.6million followers: "Peaceful protest today was beautiful to be apart of, so much unity," alongside a praying hands emoji.

Before heading out to the protest, the Don't Hate The Playaz team captain took to her social media page to admit she could have done more for the cause before the death of George.


She shared a tweet from somebody that read: "I want y'all to care AFTER the protests have ended. That's all [sic]"

Maya added to the post: "I'm aware I could have used my voice and platform more in the past.

"If you haven't already started making a change, ask yourself why and start now.

"This isn't for a day or two. Continue to speak up, donate, call racists out, educate yourselves and others around you.

"Continue to take action because just speaking about it, isn't enough," she continued.

Another famous face who took to the London protest is Liam Payne, who attended with his girlfriend Maya Henry.

The 26 year old former One Direction star was photographed with the 19 year old model holding hands as they joined in on the peaceful march.

Liam donned a pair of black jogging bottoms with a white stripe down the sides together with a plain black t-shirt and dark boots. Shielding his eyes, the singer completed the look with dark sunglasses.

His other half also opted to wear all-black clothing, too, as she had a black jumper with matching jogging bottoms on together with the classic Vans shoes.

She styled her short dark brown hair down to frame her face and kept the accessories to a minimum as she wore a simple pair of hoop earrings.

Liam and Maya walked hand in hand alongside thousands of people marching in response to the wrongful killing of George, 46, an unarmed black man who was arrested, pinned to the ground and died after a policeman kneeled on his neck in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the US.
