Melissa Rycroft: Parents Thought She Died In Dominican Republic

The Bachelor alum Melissa Rycroft had a scary health crisis following her recent vacation to the Dominican Republic — so scary, in fact, that at one point her parents thought she died.

“There was one report that was out that I was dead,” she told ET’s Keltie Knight during an interview. “My parents were frantically calling me that morning going, ‘We are getting people calling with their condolences.’ Like, ‘Mom I’m on the phone with you. I’m in my bed.” readers recall that after her trip, Rycroft, 36, went on Instagram to reveal that she contracted a brutal and mysterious illness while in the Caribbean island. With extreme stomach pains, she was rushed to the doctor where she underwent a string of blood tests.

”I was never under the care of a nurse. I was never dying, I don’t think. I felt like it a few times but I was never dying,” she said in the interview, not clarifying what illness she had or if she’s entirely cured.

After a really rough week, I have been put on a liquid diet, and given meds for my severe cramping. Fingers crossed this goes away in 3 days – doc says next step is a Parasite test if it doesn’t….?

Rycroft’s health crisis came just as a ninth American was found dead in the Dominican Republic. Radar readers know the tourists have flown to the island from all over the U.S., and have died of eerily similar consequences — many of them after drinking alcohol from their hotel mini bars.

DR authorities have said there is nothing mysterious about the deaths, but have also claimed they cannot get more information because the country’s toxicology machines are broken.

Worried tourists have begun to cancel their tropical trips amid the epidemic, and families of the deceased refuse to give up on the investigation.
