Country music group the Oak Ridge Boys and Reba McEntire paid tribute to former U.S. President George H.W. Bush by performing at his hometown memorial service Thursday.
“President Bush means so much to us,” Oak Ridge Boy’s member Richard Sterban said. “George Bush requested before he passed away that we sing “Amazing Grace,” his favorite song, at his funeral. There’s no way we wouldn’t do it.”
McEntire sang “The Lord’s Prayer” near the end of the service. Her emotional performance even made former president and son, George W. Bush, cry. “Which art in heaven/Hallowed be Thy name,” Reba sang. “Thy kingdom come/Thy will be done/On Earth/As it is in heaven.”
“It was an honor and privilege to sing at President George H.W. Bush’s funeral this morning,” McEntire tweeted. “He was a great friend and leader and I will never forget the time we shared together.”
The former president died on November 30, at the age of 94.
