Skinny Jeans Aren’t Over, According to Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton is taking time to enjoy the great outdoors.

Today, the Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a visit to Cumbria, where she promoted the beneficial, lifelong impact that nature and the outdoors can have on youth. The duchess’s visit also marked the reopening of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets’ Windermere Adventure Training Centre, which enables hundreds of cadets across the United Kingdom to visit the Lake District each year and take part in leadership-building activities.

Kate joined a group of Air Cadets early this morning for a number of outdoor activities, including mountain biking. According to an official Kensington Palace press release, the Duchess of Cambridge “passionately believes that spending time outdoors plays a pivotal role in children and young people’s future health and happiness.”

For the visit, Kate opted for a casual and functional look that included a plaid belted blazer, a beige crew-neck sweater, black skinny jeans (a controversial choice of denim, according to today’s TikTokers), and dark-brown suede hiking boots.

Later in the day, the royal switched out her blazer for a sportier olive-hued quilted jacket.

Also during her visit, the duchess went on a boat ride with two of the Windermere Children, the group of 300 child Holocaust survivors who stayed in the Lake District in 1945 to recuperate following the atrocities they experienced in concentration camps. Kate reportedly wanted to meet the survivors in person to hear their stories and learn about how outdoor recreation helped them heal from their childhood traumas.
