Lidl shopper left baffled after finding secret code on her blueberries & people offer brilliant ideas on what it means | The Sun

A LIDL shopper was left baffled after noticing that one of their blueberries had the letters “ABS” etched onto it.

The Irish-based customer took to Reddit to find out what the letters meant, and people were quick to offer some very creative ideas.

Taking to the Reddit Ireland forum, the Lidl fan wrote: “Found this code on a blueberry from Lidl. What is it?”

And the internet did not disappoint, with replies ranging from wild theories and jokes to some helpful information.

One joker wrote “Another Berry Scanned”, while another added “Anti Blackberry Society”.

And one commented: “Antilock break system. Not entirely sure why you’d need it on a blueberry though. Maybe to stop them rolling off your spoon?”

However, one person claimed that manufacturers often use a laser printer to mark each fruit punnet with a code that helps track batches and sell-by dates.

And it appears this serial number has transferred onto one of the blueberries through the packaging.

They said: “On the side of the plastic punnet, there are the same letters and numbers. It seems they do this with a CO2 etching device.

"This must have been done after the fruit was packed. This one blueberry was also etched through the plastic.

"CO2 etching seems to be gentle enough to not harm the surface of the blueberry. So I've learned something new! Hope you have too."

One Reddit user replied: “Ah so it’s not the blueberries rock hard abs.

“So much for my imaginary utopia with technologically advanced blueberries.”
