Meghan and Harry latest: Duke told to ‘forget his military titles’ as the couple prepare for ‘satisfied’ Christmas in US

PRINCE Harry has been told to ‘forget’ about his military titles after stepping down as a senior royal.

Following Megxit, the Duke said goodbye to his three military accolades and royal historian Marlene Koenig says he is unlikely to be given them back.

Speaking to the Express, she said: “He chose to leave, and he cannot fulfil the responsibilities, he's gone off to live in another country.

“Part of being a working royal are military patronages – not every member of the Royal Family gets them, but most of them do – and they need to be taken very seriously.

"When you leave the job you don't get to retain the perks.”

It comes as the couple prepare to spend a “satisfied” Christmas in the US after fleeing the UK for good.

“I think the Sussexes will feel a sense of satisfaction this Christmas after a turbulent year” Richard Fitzwilliams told the Express.

    MEGHAN’S SNACKING HABITS REVEALED

Meghan has spoken a fair bit about her diet in the past, and confirmed that one of her go-to healthy snacks is watermelon.

In a past interview, she said: “On set and at home, I try to always have a container of watermelon sprinkled with cinnamon because it elevates the flavour just a notch, and makes it feel special."

The mum-of-one also prefers a healthy drink to gorging on takeaways.

Speaking of her fast food choices, she told The Chalkboard in a past chat: "A green juice. That’s fast. And it’s food. It’s been many moons since I went through a drive thru."

INSIDE HARRY AND MEGHAN'S MEGA EARNINGS

They have been footing their own bills since quitting the Royal Family and moving into their new £11million California home earlier this year.

But if their recent mega-money media deals are anything to go by, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry certainly aren’t struggling to make ends meet.

It emerged this week that the couple have landed a £30million deal with Spotify for their own podcast – branded a “woke word salad” by listeners.

One insider said: “The initial multi-year deal is worth in excess of £30million with a view to extending it within six months.”

It comes on the back of a £112million Netflix deal – which led to Meghan being labelled the “new Kim Kardashian” – and a string of lucrative speaking events.

HARRY AND MEGHAN TO SPEND CHRISTMAS IN CALIFORNIA

As much of the UK was plummeted into Tier 3 or 4 lockdown, Harry and Meghan are set to spend Christmas in their California mansion.

The pair are set to spend the festive season with  Harry's "surrogate" dad David Foster, according to sources.

Meghan is apparently excited to host the Christmas holiday at her home and do the cooking, and the Royal Family is "not in the plan".

An unnamed source told the paper: "Meghan very much wants to host the first Christmas at their new home with her mum.

"She’s really excited and is planning on doing all the traditions she grew up with as a child, including the cooking.

"They’ve also invited David and Katherine to spend it with them.

"David had mentioned Harry and Meghan going to theirs but Meghan wants it at home.

"They want to get on with their new lives. Christmas with Harry’s family is not in the plan."

QUEEN OUTDOES SUSSEXES WITH TECH SPEECH

The Queen’s Christmas message can be requested from Alexa for the first time this year.

The historic cutting-edge move shows Harry and Meghan are not the only royals capable of keeping up with new tech.

From 3pm on December 25, Her Majesty’s annual broadcast can be heard simply by asking the virtual assistant: “Play the Queen’s Christmas Day message.”

It is a far cry from the first royal Christmas message from George V which was broadcast on the radio in 1932.

For the first time in 30 years, the Queen, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, are staying at Windsor Castle instead of spending the festivities with family at Sandringham.

The Alexa innovation comes after Harry, 36, and Meghan, 39, signed deals said to be worth £130million with Spotify and Netflix for a series of podcasts and TV shows.

    PIERS SLAMS SUSSEXES

PIERS Morgan has hit out at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's "narcissistic" Spotify deal after he thought the trailer was a spoof.

The Good Morning Britain presenter branded the couple as "the most god-awful royal grifters" as they rake in £30million from their new venture.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex giggled about having “podcast voices” and even hummed Christmas songs during the heavily scripted three-minute trailer that Piers thought was a joke.

Slamming the pair's new venture in the Daily Mail, he wrote: "As with everything the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to do these days, their new commercial venture appears to be driven by large dollops of narcissism, hypocrisy and greed."

PRINCE HARRY MISTAKEN FOR A TREE SALESMAN

Harry was mistaken for a Christmas tree salesman as he went shopping with Meghan as the couple looked for a festive fir to put up in their £11million California mansion.

A salesman said the Sussexes' agent had arranged for the pair to pick out a tree when his shop was meant to be empty.

But one family was still milling around the trees and their child ran towards Harry thinking he was staff.

Posting on Twitter he wrote: "Meghan and Prince Harry came into my work today and we sold them their Christmas Tree. It was anticlimactic, but a very, very interesting experience.

"There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is.

"They seems like very nice people honestly. Meghan sounds very kind and Harry sounded and acted like a chill lad honestly. I’m really glad they liked our trees. We got the best we could get from Wa. Very appreciative."

WHEN WERE HARRY AND MEGHAN FIRST SIGHTED TOGETHER?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be one of the most famous couplesin the world today – but do you remember their very first date?

The Sussexes looked totally in love strolling among thousands of shoppers last night on their way to West End show The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime in December 2016.

They walked hand-in-hand along Piccadilly admiring the Christmas lights.

The couple then passed stunned passers-by on Shaftesbury Avenue — one of the busiest streets in the world — as they headed to the at the Gielgud Theatre followed by just one royal protection officer.

Harry booked last-minute tickets for the production.

At the time, a pal said: “Harry has said his privacy is important to him but they are clearly not afraid to be seen in public together.

MEGHAN AND HARRY 'HAD THE WORLD AT THEIR FEET' BUT 'BLEW IT' SAYS EXPERT

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “had their world as their oyster” but “blew it” as Meghan wasn’t happy, says the Queen's former press secretary Dickie Arbiter.

Dickie spoke to True Royalty TV’s weekly programme The Royal Beat and said Prince Harry had “accepted his role” until Meghan came along.

Dickie told host Kate Thornton: “Their [Meghan and Harry’s] world was their oyster and they blew it. They literally blew it, they had everything [but] I don’t think everything was what Meghan wanted.

“Harry was the spare and the Cambridges are the heirs.

“He accepted his role, he was always born to that. Until Meghan came along and she could not accept that. She couldn’t accept being in the second row.”

It's thought he picked the bracelet up on one of his visits to Africa, as he regularly wears bracelets associated with charities he supports.

    ROCK & ROYAL

A British artist stuck in Thailand has found a way to avoid hitting rock bottom — by making masterpieces with pebbles.

Justin Bateman, 44, has been stranded in Chiang Mai since the pandemic began so creates pebble portraits of the Queen, Picasso and others to pass the time.

Justin, of Portsmouth, said: “The farmer whose portrait I did was most perplexed when I showed him the work.

“He loved it, but he seemed confused as to why I did it. This work is kind of ironic.

“You can’t sell it, and few people get to see it live, so it’s a bit pointless… but that’s the point. A sandcastle or a snowman are just as important as Michelangelo’s David – even more important, because you made them.”

    MEG LOVES SENDING HAND-WRITTEN NOTES

In her lifestyle blog The Tig she gave followers tips on the art of penmanship.

She wrote: “I’m admittedly a Luddite (ironic considering I’m now the girl with a lifestyle website, I know), but if given the option between fingers to keyboard, or pen to paper, I will always choose the latter.

“Because amongst the throwback things that I love (a ’62 Porsche speedster à la Dylan McKay in 90210, a bevy of Vargas girls, a Busby Berkeley film, or cooking over a charcoal grill), what trumps all is my love of writing (and receiving) a handwritten note.”

HOW WILLIAM AND HARRY'S NANNY TRICKED THEM INTO EATINGTHEIR VEG

Just like many other kids, Prince William and Prince Harry were reluctant to eat their greens as young boys – but their nanny had a sneaky trick up her sleeve.

According to royal chef Darren McGrady, their nanny would make them eat one piece of broccoli for each piece of chicken.

Darren shared the sweet fact on a YouTube tutorial of how he made William and Harry’s childhood crispy chicken and mac and cheese dish.

Darren said: “William and Harry loved this with shuck corn, but when nanny was in the house she always insisted the ‘boys must eat their greens’.

“She insisted that it was broccoli all the time. The boys I guess like any boys weren’t huge fans of broccoli.

“But what she said was ‘when you do the broccoli I want you to have one piece of broccoli with each piece of chicken.'"

THE BEAUTY RULE MEGHAN NEVER BREAKS

Meghan Markle's former make-up artist previously revealed the one beauty rule the Duchess never breaks.

Lydia Sellers is a top beautician and hair stylist, who worked with the Suits actress on her Vanity Fair and Elle covers – and has also groomed the likes of Dave Franco and Jamie Lynn Spears.

Lydia told Refinery 29 that Meghan favours a natural, laid-back look – and is always adamant that her freckles are still visible under her make-up.

She said: “Every time I'd do her makeup, she'd say, 'Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don't want a tonne of foundation.'

“It was more about the amount of product that went on her skin and keeping it really fresh and dewy, rather than caking it on.”

She added: “Her approach is very effortless. She just wants to look like a better version of herself.”
