WE ARE all familiar with the so-called “Kate effect” whereby anything that the Duchess of Cambridge wears, almost always sells out.
However, it looks like sister-in-law Meghan Markle may have overtaken her in the style stakes, according to Lyst.
The global fashion search platform has analysed over 20 million searches over the past two years and found that people were more interested in what the Duchess of Sussex is wearing.
There was a 216 per cent increase in people looking to emulate Meg’s style while Kate trailed behind at 119 per cent.
According to Lyst it was one of Meghan’s maternity ensembles that was most popular with royal fans.
The metallic jacquard dress worn to Prince Charles’ 50th anniversary of the Investiture of the Prince of Wales saw a 500 per cent increase in online demand for the dress.
She had previously stormed ahead of Kate in the fashion running when the pair attended Wimbledon together back in July last year.
According to data from Lyst, there was a 58 per cebt increase in searches for Meghan-inspired wide-legged white trousers since their outing.
In comparison, there's only been a 38 per cent spike in searches for copies of Kate's pretty midi (29 per cent in the UK).
Meghan also came out on top when it came to revenue, with her £448 Adrian blue striped shirt leading to 7,000 searches on Sunday alone. It proceeded to sell out in less than 24 hours.
The Duchess of Sussex has continuously won praise for her style.
The editor-in-chief of US Vogue Anna Wintour gave her fashion stamp of approval during an interview in April, with the 69-year-old even calling Meghan an "inspiration".
She said: “I’ve been thinking a lot about suits recently so… thank you to the Duchess of Sussex!”
In other royal news, royal correspondent Jennie Bond says Meghan Markle needs to rein her "massively extravagant" spending as it doesn't "play well" with Brits.
And it was revealed how Harry's mates 'mock him for starting his day with a green juice' like wife Meghan Markle.
While we spotted the awkward moment the sheepish Duchess is sternly told to 'turn around' by Harry while they pose on Buckingham Palace's balcony.
