Borough where girl died from air pollution ranks bottom in ‘healthy streets’ survey

Ella died aged nine in 2013 after developing serious asthma. She was the first to have air pollution on her death certificate.

Now Lewisham has ranked bottom of all the inner London boroughs.The best were Islington, Hackney and Camden. The Healthy Streets score is based on factors including public transport, speed limits,
low traffic neighbourhoods, and cycle tracks.

Mum Rosamund, an air pollution campaigner, said: “Nothing has changed…children are still breathing illegal levels of air pollution.”

The council was approached for a comment.
