British boy, 14, killed by car in Ibiza ‘while carrying suitcases along road’

A British boy has died in Ibiza after being run over by a car.

The 14-year-old, who had just celebrated his birthday, was hit on the road leading to Portinax by a Ford Fiesta carrying a family.

Police sources said he was in the middle of the road and not wearing a reflective jacket when he was struck late on New Year’s Day.

He was walking along the road, carrying suitcases, at the time of the tragedy, according to local reports, citing town hall sources.

He sadly passed away at the scene.

It was not immediately clear today whether the youngster lived in Ibiza or was on holiday on the popular Spanish island.

He had celebrated his 14th birthday on New Year’s Eve.

The Spanish driver, who had been travelling with his family, tested negative for both alcohol and drugs following the crash.

A Civil Guard source said: “The driver wasn’t at fault in any way and no action will be taken against him.

“The youngster who died was in the middle of the road at the time and was wearing dark clothing with no reflective jacket.

“The driver wasn’t able to do anything to avoid him.

"He tested negative for drink and drugs.”

He added that the boy who was hit "died at the scene".

The incident occurred at around 10.30pm local time yesterday.

The spot where the teenager was run over is near a roundabout known locally as the Los Cazadores roundabout.

The family travelling in the Ford Fiesta have since been given counselling because of the trauma they suffered.
