Since a simple three-ingredient banana bread recipe took social media by storm, other Australian home cooks have tried it out for themselves and shared the delicious creations online.
Taking to a slow cooking group on Facebook, the foodies shared photos of their banana breads and cakes, with some slightly tweaking the recipe to suit their taste.
The original three-ingredient recipe included five bananas, one tin of condensed milk and 3.5 cups of self-raising flour. Chocolate chips can also be added for extra sweetness.
‘I’ve just popped one into my slow cooker and used a cake liner! Didn’t have five bananas so I added two eggs for more moisture,’ one woman wrote next to a snap of her cake.

The initial user’s banana cake cooked perfectly, and she also added an extra ingredient – chocolate chips (pictured above)
The same home cook later added another image highlighting the importance of trial and error.
‘Unfortunately after 2hrs and 45min it was burnt and rubberish. In future I will put in a bath of water and use a baking tin and try for two hours plus. It’s all about trial and error with times and different slow cookers I suppose,’ she wrote.
To make the cake/bread, simply mash the five bananas, mix all the ingredients together and pour into a lined cake tin. Add three centimeters of water to the bottom of the slow cooker and place the cake tin inside.
Leave the slow cooker on high for three hours with a tea towel under the lid. After the time has passed you will have delicious, homemade banana cake.
In 2018, a savvy mother drew similar praise for making two apple tea cakes using two basic Woolworths ingredients worth $4.25.
The Australian mum, who posted her handiwork in a baking group on Facebook, used a tin of apple slices – which cost $3.50 – and two packets of 75c butter cake mix.
Others have made five-ingredient chocolate fudge with two blocks of milk chocolate, one can of condensed milk, butter, vanilla essence and one packet of clinkers – a popular childhood candy dipped in chocolate.
