Friends pay an average of £665 to stand by their bestie’s side, research by hen party company Fizzbox found.

Here are some easy ways to trim the costs of watching your mate say, “I do.”  

RENT A DRESS: One in three bridesmaids pay for their own dress, says Fizzbox, at an average cost of £120.

Or hunt out a local trainee hairdresser who will charge less and usually work under supervision of a qualified superior.

CHEAP STAYS: Overnight accommodation really bumps up the cost of a wedding invitation. Sharing with friends is one way to keep the budget in check.

Local campsites can be another wallet-friendly option in warmer months.

It is also worth comparing the cost of getting a taxi home. Even over long distances, sharing a cab can work out cheaper than paying for a room.

GIFTS TO CHERISH: Homemade gifts cut costs and add a personal touch.

You could print and frame a photo from the location of the couple’s first date or another special place. Or try printing and framing a map of the area where they live.
