The lunar cycle isn’t just something that happens in space. If you’re a spiritual person you might be open to the idea that the Moon’s phases impact our mood, dreams, desires and energy. Following the Moon’s orbit has become increasingly popular in recent years but the rituals performed online aren’t always correct. Express.co.uk chatted to astrologer and manifesting coach Melanie Moore (@mindfulnessmelanie on Instagram) to find out the four ways you can celebrate the Leo Full Moon tonight.

The Moon is Full in Leo at around 5pm tonight, so our focus is shifting to romance, relationships and balancing the personal with the impersonal.

Tonight, we’re dealing with the themes of self-expression, ego, pleasure, friendships, objectivity, independence and teamwork.

However, we’re not seeking to manifest these things and asking the Universe to bring us more.

Full Moons are all about release and letting go to make room for manifesting on the New Moon.

Full Moons culminate our monthly lunar cycle and shine a light on what we must let go of in order to create an energetic space for magic.

Melanie explained: “Full Moons are in opposition to the Sun and are always in the opposition to the Sun and are always in the opposing sign of whichever zodiac sign the Sun is in at that point.

“The Sun is in Aquarius and the Full Moon is in Leo today.

“The energy levels are at their highest during a Full Moon, which can bring our emotions to the surface.

“We can see things for what they really are and if it’s not serving our highest good that’s what we should let go of.

“Full Moons are a time of necessary inner work. Releasing and forgiveness are a vital part of manifestation, so this makes the Full Moon just as important as the exciting New Moons but in a different way.

“Full Moons also represent an ending to something or issues to arise with the house that it’s transiting.”

Here are four things you should do tonight under the magic of the Leo Full Moon.

Don’t manifest

You might have seen people bragging about their vision boards, affirmations and manifesting plans on a Full Moon, but don’t follow suit!

Manifesting is NOT what a Full Moon is about. In fact, the energy is completely wrong and you may be doing more harm than good.

Melanie said: “People just see someone else who doesn’t actually understand manifesting on Instagram on a Full Moon and copy them. Please, don’t do this!

“New Moons are a time for wishing and planting seeds, but Full Moons are about releasing what is no longer serving our highest good.

“We must make both literal and energetic space to allow more of the good stuff to pour into our existence.”

Today, think about what you need to get rid of in light of Leo themes. Are there friends and relationships that are holding you back? Or maybe you can release some self-limiting beliefs?

Only when you do this can you move forward and start to attract more of what you want.

Sage cleanse

Using sage on a Full Moon isn’t just an Instagram or TikTok fad. Melanie actually recommended using sage, incense or palo santo on a Full Moon to cleanse.

The manifesting coach and astrologer said: “Cleanse yourself, your crystals and your space.

“Just make sure you’ve got a window open to let the negative energies flow out and away, otherwise they’ll linger.”

You might fancy talking out loud about what you’re letting go of and asking the Universe for help as you go.

What is holding you back? Write it down

It can be tricky to come to terms with what you need to get rid of in your life, but journaling will force you to be honest with yourself.

Some people have designated Moon journalling notepads, but it’s what you write and the energy you put into the ritual that counts.

Melanie said: “Stick on some Solfeggio Frequency Music or whatever music you fancy and have a think about what you want to release.

Melanie said: “Write down what you’re letting go of or why. Close your eyes and visualise and feel yourself cutting energetic cords to what you are releasing.

“Express gratitude for what the challenges have brought you and let go.”

Release in a letter

If you love to write or you find it difficult to visualise letting go of something in your head, writing a letter could be a good activity.

Melanie explained: “For example, if you’re always beating yourself up about your spending habits, debt and want to be free to have a healthy relationship with money, your goal for the Full Moon might be to release any self-limiting beliefs surrounding money.

“To do this, you should write a letter to money, explaining in detail why you want to put an end to these beliefs.

“Write down whatever fears you have, send gratitude and write down what beliefs you’re replacing them with.

“Remember, forgiveness is key when letting go. Then, you can safely burn this letter under the Full Moon and watch whatever it is that you want to release burn down into nothing.”
