But this could soon be a trick of the past, thanks to a genius trick shared on Facebook.
The clip posted to the group 5 Minute Craft, called Awesome Cleaning Hacks, shows how you can find your jewellery using just a pair of stockings, a hair tie and a vacuum cleaner.

To try the trick at home, you should firstly take off the vacuum attachment so you’re left with just the bare nozzle.
Then, wrap a pair of stretched stockings around the end of it, making sure not to leave any holes.
Secure the stockings with a hair tie and then run the hoover over where you think you’ve lost your jewellery.

The suction helps to pick up small items that are difficult to spot with the naked eye, while the tights will prevent them from being sucked down the hoover.
The video – which also showcases other handy home tricks – has swiftly racked up more than 84,000 likes and shares.
Commenters have praised the tips as ‘freaking awesome’ and ‘extremely useful’.
