Get fit at home during the lockdown without breaking the bank with our top tips – The Sun

GOING to the gym is out of the question in the current crisis – but you can STILL stay active and fit.

We spoke to Donna Pugh, at personal-training providers DP Fitness & Lifestyle, about how best to work out at home.

Marathon runner Donna says: “You can do so many exercises without any weights, such as lunges, burpees, wall sits, squats and sit-ups.”

She recommends doing four sets of 12 repetitions on each exercise — and also says you can find much of your workout kit around the home.

Here are her tips . . .
GO TO THE MAT: Donna says: “A spare towel works great as a yoga mat. You can throw it straight in the wash after your workout so it’s nice and clean, ready for your next workout.”
WEIGH TO GO: You don’t need to splash out on your own set of dumb-bells. Donna suggests: “You can do bicep curls with a couple of tins of baked beans, or any tins in fact — and if you find you want to try something heavier, grab some water bottles.”
LET’S DO LUNGE: Donna says: “Lunges can be done around the house — and just grab a couple of shopping bags and fill them to add weight. You can do jumping lunges and walking lunges, too.”
SQUAT ’N’ DROP: Donna says: “Most of you will have a fully loaded laundry basket — I know that my washing seems never- ending — so put that to good use for weighted squats. Or take your fabric softener or laundry detergent and use this as a kettlebell. You can do weighted sit-ups, as well as Russian twists.”
