Huge fire engulfs hotel health spa in Richmond as 100 firefighters battle blaze

Firefighters are tackling a large blaze that has engulfed a hotel spa in London.

Flames have spread across the roof of the spa attached to the Richmond Hill Hotel, in west London, and around 100 firefighters have been sent to the scene.

Images on social media show clouds of smoke and several emergency vehicles lining nearby roads.

Fire station manager Mike Cotton said: "Crews are working hard in challenging conditions to bring the fire under control.

"The fire is in an annex building and has been producing a lot of smoke. We would urge residents and businesses in the immediate area to keep windows and doors closed while we continue to tackle the fire."

London Fire Brigade said 15 fire engines attended after emergency calls were made shortly before 6.30pm on Tuesday.

There have not been any reports of anyone being injured in the fire.

A spokesman for the service said: "Firefighters are facing very challenging conditions at the Richmond hotel spa fire. Residents and businesses in the area should continue to keep their windows and doors closed."

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, the spokesman said.

Fire crews from Richmond, Twickenham, Kingston, Heston and other nearby stations were called to the scene.
