I met the love of my life but my girls say he is old enough to be my dad

DEAR DEIDRE: I THINK I have met the love of my life – but my daughters have a problem with the 20-year age gap.

Last summer my garden needed work and it was more than I could manage as a single mum of 42.

So I called a local gardener, who started clearing the overgrowth. He was handsome and definitely didn’t look his age. He’s 62. I asked him one evening if he wanted to stay for tea. The girls, now 14 and 16, were at their dad’s.

After a few glasses of wine, he revealed he’d fancied me straight away. We had amazing sex. He didn’t act his age in the bedroom.

We’ve been dating for more than a year now and are planning to move in together. But when I told my daughters, they were mortified.

They said he was old enough to be my dad. That doesn’t bother me but should I be with someone my age?

DEIDRE SAYS:  As long as you both want the same things from this relationship, age is not an issue. It is just a number.

Explain to your girls he makes you happy and that is what matters, not the year he was born.

I am sending you my support pack Age Gaps – Do They Matter? which explains the issues.
