Tyra Banks might have begun her career in the entertainment industry as a supermodel, but she has done so much more than that. The former Victoria’s Secret Angel started her career in the late ’80s when she was just 15 years old, scoring massive fashion campaigns with everyone from Dior to Marc Jacobs. She also became the first African American chosen for the cover of Victoria’s Secret catalog. Though she’s no longer strutting down any runways, Banks certainly hasn’t faded into the background. After officially retiring from modeling 2008, Banks worked diligently on her other ventures and is also a contributor to the Vogue Italia website. Banks also completed the Executive Education Training Program at Harvard University in 2014. She’s authored several books including, Perfect is BoringModelland, and Tyra’s Beauty, Inside and Out and she’s currently the host of the acclaimed reality competition show, America’s Got Talent.

However, her latest and most exciting venture is her return to the cult classic, Life Size, as fashion doll come to life, Eve, in Life Size 2: A Christmas Eve. Back in 2000, Banks starred in the original Disney Channel film alongside, Lindsay Lohan. Now, she’s returned to the role in a Christmas-themed sequel. In an interview with Shadow and Act, Banks said,

When Life Size premiered back in the day, I had no idea it was going to be as big as it was/ It was supposed to be for a different actress,  a very big actress at the time — a household name. But, my manager some kind of way got me into this audition, and they stopped negotiating with this other woman and signed me. That was a huge deal because I didn’t even think I had a chance. I thought, “I’m a Black girl, this other actress isn’t Black.” At the last minute, they had to find all of these dolls off of a shelf and paint their eyes green to try and get them to look kind of close to me because they didn’t even have time to make a doll from scratch.

In addition to playing Eve, Banks also served as an executive producer on Life Size 2.
