Life or death for Holby City's Jac Naylor as she faces crucial surgery

It’s the day of Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel)’s surgery in a hugely emotional episode of Holby City.

As the team prepare for her operation, Jac is still very much in charge of things, insisting on being involved with the preparations. ‘Today is a good day,’ she says. ‘It’s the day we win. I am not dying, not yet.’

Before her surgery she has huge favours to ask of two of her closest friends. She asks Sacha (Bob Barrett) to go to her flat to bring a locket that belonged to her sister Jasmine. Sacha is worried – does this mean that Jac is still fighting, or has she given up hope?

Talking of hope, Jac asks Elliot (Paul Bradley) to make her a heartbreaking promise – either they get the tumour out completely in theatre, or he leaves her in there.

Meanwhile Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw)  has practically moved into the hospital because he doesn’t want to leave Jac’s side.

But as the surgery looms nearer, Elliot gets some worrying news about Jac’s condition. Will the operation that’s Jac’s only chance of survival even be able to go ahead?

Elsewhere, Josh (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge) is unsettled when Claudia Blaise’s mum comes to the hospital. She blames Josh for her daughter’s death, saying that he could have helped her and instead he turned his back. Josh struggles to cope with the idea that he failed Claudia.

Dominic (David Ames) is upset to discover that Josh and Ange (Dawn Steele) have been keeping secrets from him and apparently don’t trust him. Even after all this time, Dominic doesn’t feel like he’s properly a part of Ange’s family.

A returning patient provides a puzzle for Josh, as he battles to redeem himself for failing Claudia. The patient keeps asking for Jac, but it’s Fletch who recognises who he is.

And there’s good news for Lexy (Jenny Howe) when she gets the offer of a new kidney. While she waits for her surgery, Donna (Jaye Jacobs) – now back at Holby – fills her in on Hanssen’s love life.

Holby City continues Tuesday March 22 at 7:50pm on BBC One.
