Local people are joining forces to clean up their communities – with incredible results

The National Lottery has raised an extraordinary £40bn for good causes since the first draw in 1994.

And to celebrate the impact that it’s had on life in the UK over the years, they are running #CelebrateNationalLottery25, a £2m fund giving people the chance to apply for grants of between £100 and £1,000 for an event, activity, or item to purchase, that brings their community together in 2020.

You’ll be amazed at what can be achieved when a small grant meets
a big imagination!

Jim Harris is part of a community group that used a grant from The National Lottery to help them clean their streets and unite a community. Here he tells how…

“I’ve been chair of Gill Park Residents and Tenants Association in Denny, near Falkirk, for four years. A big part of what we do is keeping the surrounding area clean and build a sense of community. Thanks to funding from The National Lottery, we found you don’t need a lot of money to do this.

“Denny’s town centre has recently undergone major renovation work, and our association has been playing its own important part in local improvements by organising regular litter pick events.

“The litter picks we’ve organised have been very well attended, with parents often bringing their children along, plus some grandparents.

“The money from The National Lottery grant meant we can buy equipment and have community clean-ups whenever they’re needed.

“We’ve been able to order 15 adult litter pickers, eight for children, bag equipment, gloves and high-vis jackets.

“We’ve already made improvements to our local park and it’s wonderful to see a positive difference in people’s lives. I’d encourage anyone with a clever idea for a local community project to apply for a small grant.”

You can apply for a grant at CelebrateNationalLottery25.com between November 23 and 2pm on December 6, 2019.

The funding you are requesting must be used between 1st February 2020 and December 31st 2020.

Successful applicants will be notified by 31 January and receive a prepaid card in the post soon after.
