A manhunt has been launched after a woman was found strangled to death at her home in east London.
Metropolitan Police officers found the body of a 50-year-old woman at a block of flats in Poplar in Tower Hamlets on December 30.
They forced entry into the property after neighbours raised concerns for her welfare.
The death was initially treated by detectives as unexplained.
However a post mortem examination at Poplar Public Mortuary on Friday gave a provisional cause of death given as compression to the neck and a murder investigation was launched.
No arrests have been made.
Her next of kin have been informed and formal identification awaits, Scotland Yard said in a statement.
Detectives from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are investigating.
Scotland Yard has appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
