McDonald’s announces return of ‘Surprise Happy Meals’ that include 17 retro toys

2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the Happy Meal.

And to celebrate the grand occasion, McDonald’s is releasing a nostalgic version of the iconic menu item.

The fast food chain is bringing back some of its best-loved retro toys, which will accompany the burger, nuggets and fries.

Hello Kitty, My Little Pony, Tamagotchi and Furby are among the goodies to be making a comeback.

The Surprise Happy Meals have launched in McDonald’s and will be available until November 11.

It’s likely that the menu item will be popular with customers, so it’s best to bag it while you can.

Colin Mitchell, McDonald's senior vice president of global marketing, hopes the toys will please adults just as much as kids.

He said: "Parents tell us how fondly they recall their favourite toys.

"So, unboxing the Surprise Happy Meal together creates a real moment of bonding with their children.

“We hope these toys are something that they will treasure and remember."
