My marriage hasn't been the same since my husband's terrible accident

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband, 44, had a terrible accident at work two years ago and lost his eye.

He’s had surgery and therapy and he acts like it’s no big deal when I try to talk to him about it.

But since then our relationship has gone downhill. He never wants to socialise with me, or do family things with our two young sons.

I do everything alone. I’m 40 and it’s like he doesn’t want me any more. I feel so lonely, isolated and unattractive.

He’s due a lot of compensation money soon, and I’m wondering if I should walk away now before he gets it. The money means nothing to me – we were so happy when we met and had nothing.

All I want is for him to treat me like he did when we met, 12 years ago.

DEIDRE SAYS: Have you told him why you’re so unhappy? He can’t read your mind. You’re thinking of a future without him, and he needs to hear that. You can’t fix your relationship alone.

His injury was life-changing, and it’s not surprising it has undermined his confidence.

He sounds depressed. Encourage him to talk to his doctor and to get counselling. My support pack on Counselling explains more.
