My mother-in-law called from Vietnam to say my wife is planning on cheating with her ex

DEAR DEIDRE: ALARM bells started to ring when my wife insisted on returning to her home country for an extended stay without me.

We met in Dubai when I was working there. I am 39, she is 28 and from Vietnam. We married and she got her UK documents and work permit during lockdown.

She wanted to go home for a month before she started a job here. I assumed that included me. She got angry and insisted she wanted to be there alone for a month.

The day after she arrived her mother called to say my wife was planning on cheating with her ex. I confronted her over FaceTime. She agreed to get a flight back as soon as possible.

She has agreed to work on our marriage and not go back to Vietnam without me again — but can we rebuild our marriage?

DEIDRE SAYS: Stopping your wife from cheating with her ex is just the tip of the iceberg.

She was straying emotionally and may still have some unresolved issues. Is she really happy with her life here? Making her stay here won’t in itself solve all the problems.

My e-leaflet Cheating – Can You Get Over It? will help you both confront the real issues.
