Prince Harry choked up, while talking about becoming a father, as he gave a speech at the WellChild awards on Tuesday night.

The Duke of Sussex, 35, took to the stage at the event, which was streamed live on the awards Facebook page, to talk about how he knew at last year’s event that his wife Meghan was pregnant.

However as he talked about last years event he choked back tears and had to stop his speech, with host Gaby Roslin stepping in to pat him on the back, before the crowd cheered at him.

He started his speech with how it had been over a decade since he first started to attend the awards, and went on to say: ‘They never fail to inspire me – but this year it resonates in a different way as now I’m a father. Last year when my wife and I attended we knew that we were going to have a child, no one else knew but we did.’

At this point Harry seemed moved to tears as he stopped his speech and Gaby came to his aid.

Meghan, 38, later joined him on stage and looked glamorous as she wore the £1185 camel coat by Sentaler, draped over her fitted green wool dress by P.A.R.O.S.H.

WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children and their families. Over 100,000 children and young people are living with serious and complex health conditions. Many require round-the-clock support and can spend months, if not years, in hospital because there isn’t the support to get them home.
