It was a happy family occasion for the royals today as senior family members were pictured together for the first time in 2019 at a Buckingham Palace reception.

The Queen was joined by Prince Charles, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at a reception celebrating Charles’ 50 years as Prince of Wales.

The monarch, who brought a splash of colour to the exclusive party in a vibrant purple blazer and dazzling brooch, was accompanied by her eldest son as her family entered the White Drawing Room.

But her husband Prince Philip, 97, who retired from public life in 2017 was notably absent from the family occasion.

The Queen, who teamed a lilac polka dot dress with her trademark Launer London bag, was followed by mother-to-be Meghan, who dressed her blossoming baby bump in a stylish brocade dress embellished with a metallic floral pattern.

She cut an elegant figure by completing her look with a recycled £895 Amanda Wakeley coat.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge looked stylish in a pastel-green blouse dress featuring ruffled sleeves and a button-up collar, which she paired with her go-to nude heels.

Prime Minister Theresa May was also among the guests at the event honouring Charles’s contribution to the national life of Wales over the decades, and was photographed curtsying to the monarch.

Charles was created the Prince of Wales at the age of nine, on July 26 1958, and was formally invested with the title at Caernarfon Castle by the Queen on July 1 1969.

The investiture regalia he wore was on display, including the coronet, sword, ring and rod, as well as the Letters Patent for the creation of Charles as Prince of Wales in 1958.

Today marked the first occasion Meghan and Kate have been seen together at a public engagement this year.

Queen Elizabeth II greeted Prime Minister Theresa May as she arrived to attend a reception to mark the 50th Anniversary of the investiture of The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace

Back in December, the pair were greeted by adoring crowds as they made their way to St Mary Magdalene Church, a short walk from Sandringham House on the Royal Family’s Norfolk estate back on December 25.

Prince William, 36, and Harry, 34, also joined their wives as they put on a united front amid rumours of a ‘rift’ between the two couples – but again, Prince Philip was nowhere to be seen.

And it seemed like any mounting tensions were well and truly behind the Duchesses as they appeared to be all smiles as they engaged in conversation with other guests.
