When we weren’t baking banana bread or attempting TikTok dances, many of us spent lockdown binge-watching the hit Netflix series Bridgerton – and swooning over the hunky Duke of Hastings.

But with the disappointing news that actor Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning to our screens for the second season, Bridgerton fans have been left disappointed this week.

But something to lift our spirits a little is new insight into what the Duke would have actually smelled like in the 1800s. How could we possibly know what that scent would be? Perfume experts at Fragrance Direct have done some digging to find the answers.

According to the fragrance retailer, colognes worn back in the early 1800s (when Bridgerton is set) were bursting with tangy citrus scents and subtle orange notes.

While perfumes are widely available these days, during the Duke’s era, fragrances were considered a status symbol and restricted to royalty and nobility.

In modern times, Fragrance Direct’s research suggests that the Duke would have smelt like Diesel’s Only The Brave EDT, currently on sale from just £32.95 here.

Hugely popular, this masculine, energising scent boasts notes of lemon, mandarin, amber, leather, and woody cedar. It’s a sophisticated fragrance fit for a Duke.

Those hoping to give the man in their life the royal treatment, not only is Diesel’s best-selling scent currently on sale, but if you purchase a 125ml bottle or above, you’ll get a free gift of a washbag and shower gel.

When the news first broke that Regé-Jean wouldn’t be joining the rest of the Bridgerton cast for the second season, fans of the show were understandably distraught.

Many took to Twitter to voice their concerns, with one fan writing: “Jean Page leaving Bridgerton is the most saddest thing ever … I don't want another Duke.”

Another angry fan says: “This is a message for Regé-Jean page: you have broken my heart.”

However, it seems that every cloud does in fact have a silver lining, as it’s been rumoured that Regé-Jean could potentially be the next James Bond.

Other suspected candidates include Marvel actor Tom Holland and Hollywood heart-throb Tom Hardy.

Since news of his Bridgerton exit, Regé-Jean has taken the bookies’ top spot, over Tom Hardy, to take over the 007 role from Daniel Craig.
