Wanted man who fled police makes cheeky request to get tracksuit back from them

A wanted man who was running away from police accidentally dropped a bag full of new clothes – now he wants them back.

While fleeing the officers in Kirkby, Merseyside the suspect dumped a brand new tracksuit on the ground by mistake.

Since then, a relative of the man has reached out to officers.

But rather than helping police in their investigation, it was in a cheeky bid to retrieve the £155 outfit.

The man dropped the bag and ran after seeing police near Kirkby train station last week.

Liverpool Echo reports that the clothes – complete with a tags and a gift receipt – may well have been a present destined for one of the wanted man’s loved ones.

After they were found by police, officers posted a picture of them on Facebook and said they were available at the local station.

And that appeal led to an audacious response, with a relative of the man revealing he ran because he was wanted by police.

But they still wanted the clothes back.

Writing on Facebook, officers said: "Last week we posted details about this tracksuit that was found near to Kirkby train station after a male made off from officers.

"We have since received a message from a family member explaining that the owner ran because he’s…. wait for it…. WANTED!!

"Would it be okay to collect the clothes on his behalf?

"We have a better solution…

"Instead of running around the estate as a wanted suspect maybe he could do the right thing and surrender himself to get his own clothes back in time for Christmas."
