  • IS Shkodran Mustafi actually better than Harry Maguire?

The under-fire German, 27, topped the Leicester star in almost every category last season – with a move to Monaco on the cards for the German.

Man Utd are on the brink of finally landing No1 target Maguire, after months of chasing, as they were forced to stump up £85m – a figure dubbed an “incredible deal” by Brendan Rodgers.

Maguire, 26, will now become the most expensive defender in history, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool spent on Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.

But the latest stats will make United fans wonder if he is worth all that money.

After all, in eight major defensive categories, Mustafi showed off better figures in SEVEN of those.

  • ARSENAL have put three players up for sale after sealing a club record transfer for Nicolas Pepe.

The Ivorian completed his £72million move from Lille yesterday, snubbing the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Napoli.

According to the Times, the Gunners will now try and offload Mohamed Elneny, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Carl Jenkinson to raise some much-needed funds.

  • JUVENTUS have turned down Arsenal's loan bid for Italy international defender Daniele Rugani.

The Gunners wanted the centre-half on a two-year loan, but the Italian giants have snubbed their offer.

Emirates chief Unai Emery was keen on Rugani, who made 20 starts in Serie A for the Old Lady last season.

Arsenal need more options at the back, with veteran France central defender Laurent Koscielny wanting to quit the North Londoners.

Callum Chambers has been playing at the heart of the defence in pre-season, but with Rob Holding still injured, Emery is short on numbers with the season just a week away.

The Gunners only have six days until the transfer deadline and have earmarked a a left-back, as well as a centre-back as the top priority.

  • AT WHICH club did Nicolas Pepe spend the 2015/16 season on loan?

  • ARSENAL are expected to make a new offer for Kieran Tierney over the next few days.

The Gunners have already had two bids – the latter worth £25million – for the Celtic star rejected this summer.

But Sky Sports are reporting that the North London club are increasingly confident an agreement can be reached for Tierney before the transfer deadline closes on Thursday.
