That is perhaps one of the biggest mysteries. Tottenham showed dramatic improvement following Conte’s arrival last season, and they were tipped by many to go on and challenge this year. 

That has proven not to be the case, however, with Tottenham limp right from the opening game of the campaign.

For Tottenham, qualifying for the Champions League is now as important as ever. Spurs are in fourth as things stand, though Newcastle are two points behind with two games in hand. 

Stellini, with Ryan Mason as his assistant, has 10 games to ensure Tottenham finish in the top four and thus qualify for the Champions League once more.

That starts with Everton away next Monday, with home games against Brighton and Bournemouth to follow.

To entice the big names – of course being the likes of Nagelsmann and Pochettino – qualifying could be crucial. Yes, Spurs will want to secure a new boss as soon as possible, but an upturn in form is essential.
