Everton star Andre Gomes discharged from hospital after successful surgery on fractured and dislocated ankle – The Sun

ANDRE GOMES has been discharged from hospital following his successful operation yesterday.

The Everton star had surgery on his right ankle after breaking and dislocating it in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Gomes was rushed to hospital following the horrific injury after an accidental collision with Son Heung-min and Serge Aurier.

But two days later he will now be under the care of club doctors as his long recovery period gets underway.

An Everton statement read: "Following a successful operation yesterday, Andre Gomes has now been discharged from hospital and will continue his rehabilitation under the care of the Everton medical team."

Gomes has been inundated with messages of support on social media including posts from Cristiano Ronaldo and Toffees team-mates.

Ronaldo wrote: "Fast recovery, @aftgomes21 will come back even stronger. Big hug."

Yerry Mina, Lucas Digne and Cenk Tosun were highlighted along with Fabian Delph, Richarlison and ex-Arsenal star Alex Iwobi.

Everton confirmed yesterday that Gomes is expected to make a full recovery.

Although a timescale on his return has not yet been made official after his op at Merseyside's Aintree Hospital.

It was thought no Toffees players were able to visit Gomes because he was on such a "strong dose of painkillers".

Tosun, who grabbed the late equaliser in the draw, explained the horror of seeing Gomes' injury first-hand.

He said: "Everybody is so sad inside.

"Some players, they nearly cried. Andre was in shock. His eyes were open so big. He was crying, shouting and screaming. I just tried to hold him and speak to him. I tried to tell him to stay calm.

"We couldn't understand him. He was the one who had got the injury."
