Everton star Richarlison mocks Merson after Sky Sports pundit's pre-season claims

RICHARLISON aimed a cheeky jibe at Paul Merson after proving the Sky Sports pundit wrong.

The Everton man's £40million transfer was branded an example of spending gone mad over the summer.

But after bagging 14 goals in his most productive season to date, the 22-year-old Brazilian reminded Merson of his comments.

Merson said: "I think that's [Richarlison signing] what's spoiled the window if I'm being perfectly honest.

"I think that happened so early, and at £40m that set the benchmark.

"Teams then have gone, 'Well if you're getting £40m for him I want £60m, £70m, £80m, £90m and £100m.

"I think that's the problem."

And Richarlison tagged the pundit as he replied "a big hug" in his native tongue.

Merson had already admitted he was wrong to criticise the Toffees for splashing out on Richarlison.

But he was served another reminded that certain footballers do not like being questioned.

Richarlison responded perfectly to the criticism by showing his quality on the field before dishing out some light-hearted banter.

Everton's quest to unseat one of the top six was dealt a blow this season as Wolves beat them to seventh.

The Toffees have spent big trying to get among the Prem giants.

But promoted Wolves now look the most likely challengers to the current order after following up their promotion with a  brilliant campaign.
