Fallon Sherrock beaten by Chris Dobey as World Darts Championship fairytale ends

Fallon Sherrock is out of World Darts Championship after losing 4-2 to 22nd seed Chris Dobey.

The Alexandra Palace heroine has been the most popular player in this year's World Championship after her recent exploits.

Sherrock became the first women ever to win a match at the tournament, disposing of Ted Evetts in round one before 11th seed Mensur Suljovic fell to the 25-year-old in the second round.

But her incredible run at the oche is over after she bowed out against Ashington-born Dobey in round three.

It was a perfect start for Sherrock, who broke Dobey in the first leg of the first set.

The north east man hit back but it was Sherrock who took the first set 3-1, with the Alexandra Palace crowd cheering every treble.

The second was trickier for the women's world No 2, who needed some poor Dobey finishing to level it at 2-2.

But the bookies' favourite for the match broke back to take it 3-2, to the disappointment of the spectators.

A 142 finish kicked off set three in final style for Sherrock.

And it was an easy 3-1 win to take the third and control of the match once more.

But again Dobey wasn't allowing her to push too far ahead, winning the fourth and tying the match at 2-2 in sets.

Sherrock again took out a 142 in the first match of the fifth but she fell behind for the first time in the match as she lost the set.

And Dobey wasn't messing around as he took the sixth with some fine finishing, ending Sherrock's run in the tournament.

Sherrock has already garnered attention around the world and even received a message of support from equality pioneer Billie Jean King.

Dobey will play Glen Durrant in the next stage of the competition.
