FERRAN TORRES is the latest winger to be deployed as Manchester City’s main striker and he has what it takes to be the club’s top scorer this season, according to Shaun Goater.
Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden all had a go through the middle last campaign as the ‘false-nine’ became Pep Guardiola’s go-to.
And having missed out on Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo, while title rivals Chelsea splashed £97.5million on Romelu Lukaku, it’s set to be more of the same as City look to defend their Premier League title.
But cult hero Goater, 51, is not worried about his old club’s failure to replace Sergio Aguero and thinks Torres, 21, has all the hallmarks of a top striker.
He was actually bought as a winger last summer in a £20.8m deal from Valencia.
But Goater told SunSport: “I really like the look of Torres. He will challenge for top goalscorer at City this season.
“When I watch him, I think: ‘Is this guy really a wide player?’
“His decision making, runs, movement and finishing… he looks like a centre-forward to me.

“He’s a real threat. He doesn’t need three or four opportunities to work the goalkeeper.
“You give him two, he works the keeper and one of them almost always goes in."
Goater, speaking on behalf of Casumo said: “It will be between him, Sterling and [Ilkay] Gundogan.”

The 20-cap Spain international has started up-front in each of City’s Prem games – with his two goals and one assist coming in the Arsenal thrashing.
He also scored in each of his country's recent World Cup qualifying wins over Georgia and Kosovo.
