George Fisher reflects on a busy and rewarding period on and off the court, including triumph away from Saracens Mavericks commitments and success stories in her family.
So I left you just before round nine!! Wow it’s been a busy couple of weeks.
We travelled up to Scotland for round nine vs Sirens and I got a total roasting from my team mates over a couple of innocent comments I may have made!
How was I to know that they take English money and that I wouldn’t need an adapter to charge my mobile phone! I’d flown there so it must be like going on holiday right!
Despite all of this we came home with a win, I got to have a run out as GA and even got a cheeky player of the match. Sash also came home with a little extra present, a lovely black eye, that just got bigger and bigger on the flight home!
Onto round 10 vs Thunder, less said the better. I totally hate losing but we did not play our best netball and they took the win.
But as my dad says “always pick the positive” and the one positive thing were our supporters, it was a home game and they were amazing, so loud – they really had our backs. I’m just disappointed we couldn’t bring home the win for them.
The matches were coming fast and furiously and quickly it was Round 11 – another home game against Surrey.
We’ve always seen this as our local derby match with us being opposite each other on the M25, again our supporters didn’t disappoint. They were so loud it was awesome.
It took us a while to settle and was a game of two halves, we were five down at half-time but came out fighting and turned the game around eventually winning by eight. Not the prettiest netball but a win is a win.

With three rounds of the Vitality Netball Superleague under our belt it was time to turn my attention to a different type of big game on Wednesday.
Still in a purple dress, but not for Saracens Mavericks this time, I was representing my Uni, University of Hertfordshire, at the BUCS Championship finals in Nottingham.
This is the pinnacle of the University sporting competition and I was really excited for the game. We were there to defend our title facing University of Birmingham!
I am so stoked to say we did it and we are 2019 BUCS netball champions! Little bit of history for you – BUCS started in 1919 so it was celebrating its 100th year of competition and it was great to be a part of it.

It was also awesome catching up with my best mate Fran – after the game – as we were total rivals and had a really good battle on the court!
Focus now is on a big one this Saturday – Saracens Mavericks vs Loughborough Lightning.

It’s going to be an awesome game as we are both fighting for a place in the top four and the top five clubs in the league couldn’t be closer at the moment so every game is really important. It’s an away game but I am still hoping to see some of our supporters there!
Away from my own netball exploits, my family have been up to some pretty awesome things too. I hope you all followed the Special Olympic World Games hosted in Abu Dhabi.
I’m dead proud of my brother Jake, who was on the GB Coaching team for the men’s basketball squad that came home with an Olympic Gold medal after beating USA in the final.

He is head coach at Chiefs SO basketball club in Hertfordshire and two of his players, Adam and Harry, were also in the winning squad!
Final big shout out to my mum’s netball team HNC Eagles, they have won division one of the Welwyn and Hatfield league with one game in hand and already have a goal difference of +436.
Massive well done ladies proud of you all and especially my mum! Not bad from a walking netball team to a division one winning team in three years!
