Glum Georgina Rodriguez rages after 'best player in world' Cristiano Ronaldo is dropped for Portugal win at World Cup | The Sun

GEORGINA RODRIGUEZ looked glum in the stands as her man Cristiano Ronaldo started Portugal's World Cup round of 16 clash on the bench last night.

Ronaldo, 37, was dropped by boss Fernando Santos after sulking when substituted against South Korea.

His replacement Goncalo Ramos proved to be a revelation, scoring a memorable hat-trick in the 6-1 win.

Ronaldo did come on for the final 17 minutes, but this wasn't enough to please Georgina.

Taking to Instagram, the 28-year-old model wrote: "Congratulations Portugal.

"While the 11 players sang the anthem all the goals placed on you.

"What a shame not to have been able to enjoy the best player in the world during the 90 minutes.

"The fans have not stopped claiming you and shouting your name."

She then sarcastically referred to Santos' relationship with Ronaldo, adding: "I hope that God and your dear friend Fernando continue hand in hand and make us vibrate one more night."

Portugal are next in action on Saturday, when they take on Morocco in the quarter-finals.

Should they beat the conquerors of Spain, they would meet the winner of England vs France in the semis.

Pundit Ian Wright still believes that Ronaldo could play a big part for Portugal during the rest of the tournament.

Appearing on ITV, he said: "Ramos scored a hat trick and will take all the headlines and deservedly so. His first goal, it set the stall for the match.

"He scored a goal he wasn't meant to score, he hit it so early and so well. That set them on the road.

"This is a team that could easily go all the way and Ronaldo can still really contribute. If he gets it all right in his head he could end up scoring the winning goal for them in the final."

Ronaldo's former team-mate Gary Neville added: "It is worth mentioning that Ronaldo celebrated the first two goals like crazy, I have given him criticism for sulking but he wasn't sulking.

"It looked on social media like he was sulking but he wasn't."

Also appearing on ITV, fellow pundit Nigel de Jong opted to heap praise onto Ronaldo's 21-year-old replacement Ramos.

The Dutchman said: "I was really pleased to see it. A young kid coming into a game like this, it is a lot of pressure on his shoulders because he was replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.

"He is two footed, he can play with his left and his right foot. Portugal have a bright future with these guys up top."
