How Danica Patrick helped Aaron Rodgers deal with Packers turmoil

Aaron Rodgers didn’t have much time to digest coach Mike McCarthy’s firing from the Packers on Sunday night.

Following Green Bay’s 20-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Lambeau Field, the front office let McCarthy go after 13 seasons with the team. And on the same night his longtime coach received a pink slip, the Packers quarterback enjoyed a surprise murder mystery party, thrown by girlfriend Danica Patrick, per Terez Owens.

Prior to the ax dropping on McCarthy, Rodgers let it slip that he was clued into Patrick’s plans, according to

“There’s some sort of surprise being cooked up,” Rodgers told the Wisconsin State Journal. “I do know there’s some people I really enjoy who are coming [to town]. I’ve gotten word that [ex-Packers teammates] A.J. [Hawk] is probably coming and [Matt] Flynn is probably coming. So I’m pretty pumped about that.”

Rodgers turned 35 on Sunday. It’s unlikely his feuding family members attended the birthday festivities.

As for the future of the Packers, Rodgers will not be involved in the search for the new coach.

“Aaron is free to provide input, but he won’t be part of the process,” CEO Mark Murphy said during Monday’s press conference.
